MUMBAI
MUMBAI is my city... & I have innumerable reasons to love it completely! However, here I present the top 23 reasons for loving this truly awesome city!
1. The
Arabian Sea: - Mumbai
is blessed with the best oceanic-scenic view. It really feels great when you
have a vast sea-facing cubicle at your office or an ocean just down the lane!
We have a lot of beaches as well- The Juhu Beach, the Girgaon Chowpatty, the
Dadar Chowpatty & so on! Mumbai… the
Sea-City!
2. Cool
people: - The
coolest people you will find here! By cool, I do not mean the “YO” types - by
cool I mean the casual people- who won’t mind what are you doing or what are
you wearing. Doesn’t really matter to us! No showbaazi, please! Mumbai…
the Cool City!
3. Safety:
- Mumbai is safer
than most of the city in India, & there is a lot more respect for the
fairer sex. No doubt, we have certain incidents of misfortunes, but it still
remains a safer option when compared to its other counterparts. Also, the guys
here are really decent & polite! They have a considerably less percentage
of hooliganism & they feel no need to impress the girls by flaunting their
richness. We believe in chivalry, you see! Mumbai…
the Safe(ci)ty!
4. Mumbai
Locals: - Truly the
life line of Mumbai. Mumbai locals have the capacity to take 50 times the allotted
capacity of people- & they never really stop working- unless it’s raining
heavily- but even then-they run late. You won’t find Mumbai locals breaking
down or not working at all. Also, it enhances the connectivity a lot. Cheaply.
5. Eateries:
- Mumbai has some of
the best eateries- from the lowest range to the highest! You will find awesome
road-side stalls serving delicious food, & also sexy high class places to
dine in! Plus, our very own Paav Bhaaji
& Vada Paav, can beat any
multi-inter-continental-statel cuisine. Mumbai…
the Foodie City!
6. Work
Hub: - Undoubtedly,
it is one of the biggest work hub- the most densely populated state when it
comes to “migration for jobs”. Truly, the working capital of our Country. With the business opportunities, as well as the potential to offer a
higher standard of living, Mumbai
is India's largest financial and commercial capital of the country. Mumbai… the Workaholic City!
7. Fast
paced life: - There
is something in Mumbai that fills you with the hurriedness & the speed.
Anybody who stays in Mumbai must be aware of it- you won’t find people having
the chilled out, chalta hai attitude.
No, we have an 8.4 local to catch & it’s definitely not “chalta hai” if we reach our offices 2
minutes late! Also, the zest & enthusiasm of the city is invincible. Mumbai…the Swift City!
8. Festivals:
- Nowhere else will
you find so many diverse festivals being celebrated with exactly equal
enthusiasm. Be it our own sweet Ganapati Bappa,
or be it Diwali, Dussehra, Janmashtamai, or even Eid or Christmas- the
enthusiasm & celebrations go equally! It attracts
migrants from all over India, thus making the city a melting pot of many communities and cultures. Mumbai… the Festive City!
9. Shopping: - We have our own awesome shopping
getaways- the Linking Road at Bandra, the Fashion Street at CST, the Crawford
market & Colaba Causeway- we have it all! & yes, we find the widest
varieties of everything that defines fashion! Mumbai… the Shop-till-you-drop City!
10. Combination
of the Rich & Poor: -
A place where the rich & the poor are neighbors! Mumbai is a place where
anybody can survive- a beggar to an industrialist- we have them together! Mumbai…the Combo City!
11. Bollywood:
- Yes, the
Bollywood! The biggest of the bollywood stars live here- & yes, you do get
to see them- at their sprawled bungalows or taking morning walks beside you at
Joggers Park- or sitting in their chauffer driven cars, just beside your scooty
at the Bandra signal. Mumbai…the
Star-Lit City!
12. Industrialists:
- Yes, we have the
industrialists with us too! The Ambanis, the Tata’s, the Birla’s... you name
them!
13. Sachin
Tendulkar: - The God
of Cricket lives here! No elaborations required!
14. Secularism- One of the best places where you will
find secularism truly defined! It even portrays in our celebrations (point no.
8). We just love & respect everybody equally! Mumbai… the Seculari-sty!
15. Connectivity: - Mumbai has a really great connectivity
to all its towns as well as other cities & countries. Be it via Locals,
Metro’s, Mono’s, BEST buses, NMMC Busses, AC Buses, Airports, Cabs,
Auto-rickshaws- everything! & most of it is really cheap! Mumbai… the Connected City!
16. Chota
Kashmir: - If you
can’t afford going to Kashmir, you can go to the sweet small version-the Chota
Kashmir! No true substitute for Kashmir, but definitely a small one- as they
say, something is better than nothing! Mumbai…
the Heaven-on-Earth City!
17. Infrastructure & Architecture: - We have awesome, world class,
infrastructure! We really do! Agreed other cities are coming up really quick,
but well, Mumbai- nothing beats that (as of now)! The architecture of the city is a blend of Gothic
Revival, Art Deco,
and other contemporary styles. Most of the buildings are from the British
period, such as our Victoria Terminus (Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus). Mumbai…the Infra City!
18. The Temples:- We have some incredible temples here-
which we cherish! There is a wide array of distinct temples of the divergent
cultures (or castes)- which have a niche in our hearts! Be it the Siddhivinayak
Temple, or the Mahalakshmi Temple, the Iskon Mandir or the Gurudwara Punjabi
Sabha, the Mount Mary Church or the Haji Ali… we believe in bowing down before each
of them, believing in their spiritual importance & mannats. Mumbai… the
Spiritual City!
19. Rains: - Ahh! The Mumbai rains! Undoubtedly the
best! Agreed, we have a lot of water clogging & traffic issues during the
monsoons- but the feeling of Mumbai Rain outraces it all.
20. The
Open Spaces:- Mumbai
has some great open spaces, sprawling landscapes- which have been utilized to
their optimum capacities. The Sanjay Gandhi National Park, The University of
Mumbai, The Kamla Nehru Park, Essel World, Mahalaxmi Race Course, The Shivaji
Park & a lot more! Mumbai… the
Lavish City!
21. Arts
& Heritage: -
Mumbai is a city where art is duly respected & enjoyed! We have our very
own (& ancient) Museum, the lovely Jehangir Art Gallery, The Prithvi
Theatre, the huge Asiatic Library, The National Gallery of Modern Art. Not only
that, we have the fabulous Kalaghoda Art Festival every year- to celebrate ART!
Mumbai is also called the “Birthplace of Indian Cinema”! Mumbai… the Artistic City!
22. The
Spirit of Mumbai:-The
city has its own spirit- a spirit of livelihood- an attitude to get up, &
carry on, no matter what. The city that has faced horrendous experiences of
terrorism, & yet stood up every single time with a new strength! You need
to visit Mumbai to experience this spirit & zest for life! The passion for
living AND surviving! Mumbai… the
Passionate city!

Honest: - Yes, our
dear dearr Mumbai has been voted & quoted as the “Most Honest City”! Being
a Mumbaikar, that really makes me
proud! We are honest people you see- so this post is really honest & true
as well! ;) Mumbai… the Honest City!

Some Quick Fact About Mumbai:-
Demography: - It is the most populous
city in India, second most populous metropolitan
area in India, and the fifth most populous city in the world,
with an estimated city population of 18.4 million and metropolitan area
population of 20.7 million as of 2011.
History: - Bombay in the 19th century was characterized by economic and
educational development. During the early 20th century it became a strong base
for the Indian independence
movement. Upon India's independence in 1947 the city was incorporated into Bombay State. In 1960, following the Samyukta Maharashtra movement, a new
state of Maharashtra was created
with Bombay as the capital. The city was renamed Mumbai in 1996
Economy: - Mumbai is the financial,
commercial and entertainment capital of India. It is also one of the world's
top ten centers’ of commerce in terms of global financial flow. The city houses
important financial institutions such as the Reserve
Bank of India, the Bombay Stock Exchange,
the National Stock Exchange of
India, the SEBI and the corporate headquarters of numerous Indian companies and multinational
corporations. It is also home to some of India's premier scientific and nuclear
institutes like BARC, NPCL, AECI, and the Department of Atomic Energy.
Religious Representation: - The religions represented in Mumbai include Hindus (67.39%), Muslims (18.56%), Buddhists (5.22%),Jains (3.99%), Christians (4.2%), Sikhs(0.58%), with Parsis and Jews making up the rest of the population. The
linguistic/ethnic demographics are: Maharashtrians (42%), Gujaratis (19%), with the rest hailing
from other parts of India.
Entertainment: - Mumbai is the birthplace of Indian
cinema- Dadasaheb Phalke laid
the foundations with silent movies followed by Marathi talkies—and the oldest
film broadcast took place in the early 20th century. Mumbai also has a large
number of cinema halls that feature Bollywood, Marathi and Hollywood movies.
